Mainz for Foodies

People enjoying drinks at an outdoor café surrounded by greenery and flowers.

Mediterranean atmosphere

Sample the authentic tastes of Mainz with a local foodie as your guide! We will wander around the picturesque old town like locals, sampling regional delicacies such as delicious Brezeln (freshly baked doughy pretzels), German cheeses like Handkääs mit Musik (hand cheese with “music”) or Spunderkääs (a creamy cheese with paprika). We can stop in intimate courtyards for a glass of the world-famous Riesling that makes Mainz one of the world’s great wine capitals or an apple or grape juice spritzer popular especially during the summer months. Depending on the season and time of day, we might sample Glühwein (mulled wine) on the Christmas Market (see also the Christmas Market Tour), traditional Zwiebelkuchen (onion quiche) served in the autumn/fall with Federweißer (grape juice that has just started fermenting) or a hunk of Fleischwurst (pork sausage) as part of the traditional farmers’ market breakfast. If you have dietary or other requirements we can discuss these in advance and chose suitable foods and drinks or you can simply rely on me to introduce you to Foodies Mainz.
