Cathedral and Diocesan Museum
Situated in the cathedral’s former chapter house and cloisters, this atmospheric museum shows religious works of art from the last 1500 years. Being the second largest museum of its kind in Germany, it also shows pieces of European standing such as sculptures by the Naumburg Master including the famous group of the Last Judgement containing the Deesis, The Blessed and The Damned. The museum includes St. Nicholas’s Chapel which contains the archiepiscopal treasury.

Visit one of the world’s most important museums of ancient seafaring. In the museum you will see the almost 2000 year-old wrecks of several Roman ships discovered in Mainz in the 1980’s. We will walk between impressive life-size reconstructions which show not only the engineering skills of the Roman shipbuilders but also give us an insight into life at this important frontier of the Roman Empire.
